Comparing AQE, GL and SEAG
Below you will find previous years details and the table below was provided by SEAG (2024) and offers an approximate comparison of the old AQE score and GL score, grade and cohort percentile against the new SEAG Total Standardised Age Score (TSAS). Again use this as a guide only.

Should you find any errors, please let me know by filling in this quick form -> here.
Due to Covid September 2021 admissions are not available as the test didn’t take place in November 2020).
The Transfer Tutor App & Social Media
The Transfer Tutor App is a web-based app for children doing the transfer test and it offers questions in line with the SEAG Specification covering English and Maths (with lots of great features), so it is perfect for the child in preparing for the test. You can check it out here with all the latest special offers. Check Out The Transfer Tutor.
In addition, I create a number of blogs to directly help parents navigate the transfer process throughout the year and so if you don’t follow on social media already, you might find that a good thing to do. Simply click on Facebook or Instagram to be taken to that Page, or find me on TikTok. Customers of The Transfer Tutor App will also benefit of Customer-Only Zoom calls throughout the year to guide them through complex topics e.g. SEAG Scoring, so it worth considering the App if you feel you would benefit from enhanced parental support.

Grosvenor Grammar (Belfast)
2026 Lowest SEAG TSAS – 181
175 applicants with scores from 181–279 were selected.
My thoughts on the lower score this year:
Grosvenor is a highly regarded grammar school and this lower score is not a reflection on any notable changes at the school but I suspect the drop may partly reflect how parents approached their school choices.
With the previous lowest score sitting at 205, some parents with scores below this may have assumed Grosvenor was out of reach and therefore chosen not to list it. There may also have been some caution around preference order, particularly where local non grammar schools had admissions criteria linked to first or second preference.
For example, some families may have viewed Bloomfield as the safer option because of its historically lower score while Ashfield Girls and Ashfield Boys also have preference criteria which may have influenced how parents completed their choices.
This is only my interpretation of what may have happened but it is a useful reminder that previous years’ scores are a guide, not a cut off for the following year.
