Last year, on one of these posts, a parent commented asking, “Are the answers on your website?”

Well, at that time they weren’t – but what a fabulous idea! I got to work and here you go.

ANSWERS & EXPLANATION :

Q1. Answer A: 14

Because this is an estimate question, it is important that the child does not try to work out the actual calculation. Instead, round the numbers to make the division easier.

281 ≈ 280
19 ≈ 20

280 ÷ 20 = 14

Q2. Answer: £870

TIP – For a closed irregular shape like the one in this question, the horizontal lengths can be paired and the vertical lengths can be paired. This will save a lot of time trying to work out the missing numbers and then adding them altogether which could also be the time when a mathematical error could be made.

Horizontals – 85 × 2 = 170 m
Verticals – 60 × 2 = 120 m

Perimeter = 170 + 120 = 290 m

290 × £3 = £870
