Question 1 of 1
1. Question
Danny spends £210 of his weekly wage on household bills. This is 75% of his weekly pay. He also saves one fifth of his weekly wages in the bank.
How much money would he have in the bank after 3 weeks?
Correct
The correct answer is £168.
If 75% of his pay is £210 this is equal to three quarters of his pay. One quarter can be found by dividing by 3 (£210 divided by 3 = £70)
If one quarter = £70 then his full pay is £70 X 4 = £280
Danny puts one fifth of his pay in the bank each week. One fifth can be worked out by dividing by 5. (£280 divided by 5 = £56)
He puts £56 in the bank each week. In three weeks he would have £56 X 3 = £168 in the bank.
Incorrect
The correct answer is £168.
If 75% of his pay is £210 this is equal to three quarters of his pay. One quarter can be found by dividing by 3 (£210 divided by 3 = £70)
If one quarter = £70 then his full pay is £70 X 4 = £280

He puts £56 in the bank each week. In three weeks he would have £56 X 3 = £168 in the bank.
Hint
75% is equal to three quarters. Find one quarter, then work out his pay every week.
You will then be able to work out one fifth of his pay.
